Our sole purpose for being is to give glory to God in all that we do. Because God has given us our talents in making music, we have joined together to make our music for the Lord. We come from diverse backgrounds and musical experiences, both secular, Contemporary Christian and Catholic Liturgical music. We primarily seek to contribute to the praise and worship of our Lord in a live worship setting. Our secondary purpose is to spread the Word of God through our music both live and through recording. We dedicate ourselves and our music to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Blessed Mother. We pray that the Lord may touch your heart and bless you with His abundant grace and that somehow the music we make will make a joyful noise unto the Lord and will help you do the same. Alex Abuyuan - Director After entering the USAF Academy, Alex became a member of the Catholic Choir and the traveling Cadet Chorale doing concerts all over the country and was chosen to escort candidates for the 1980 Miss USA pagent - very much a thrill. After entering the US Air Force as an officer, he maintained his participation in Liturgical music with various base chapel choirs playing guitar and electric bass as needed. During this time, he was a member of several secular rock bands as both a guitar player and bass player, but his heart was always in serving the Lord with his music. After leaving the USAF and becoming a civilian, working in the Defense Industry as a consultant, he interviewed and was selected as the music minister for the Wright State University Newman Center and served in that capacity ministering to the students of Wright State for 11 years, planning and playing for two services every Sunday and numerous retreats and weddings. After 11 years and starting a family, it was time for Alex to move on to Parish Music Ministry at his home Parish in Centerville, OH at the Church of the Incarnation. It is here where he first joined the choir and expanded his role to accompanying the choir on guitar. He then expanded to join Kim Conde who played the piano at the Parish Center services (the Gym masses) for about 900 people for both the 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM masses. After about a year, Alex decided that it would be cool to find a bass player and drummer some others to sing. That is when the Nearer to God Band started. Now the band is up to 12 members and continue to serve the Lord with their music and special Charism. Alex is married to the former Ginny Davis. They have five children, Zoe, Athan, Maddie, Nicholas and Isabel.
